Vintage Zayane Kilim / 408 x 186 cm
This majestic vintage kilim from the Zayane region commands the room with quiet power and poetic geometry. Woven on a ground of deep mauve, it pulses with a rhythm of repeated color, radiant orange, turquoise, pale pistachio and a whisper of carmine red, all held in balance by grounding tones of white and black.
Its field is composed of horizontal bands, each one a chapter of precise Berber symbols, meticulously arranged and expertly executed. The smaller bands between them serve as measured pauses, breaths between verses, offering structure and serenity. Framing the full composition, two strings of protective diamonds run the length of each side, echoing the ancestral symbolism of guardianship and continuity.
There is a noble presence to this piece, a blend of firm decisiveness and soft expression that could only come from a master weaver’s hands. It is both intricate and monumental, ceremonial yet grounded.
Finished with long twirled fringes that gently soften its grandeur, this kilim is not just a textile, it is architecture in wool.
