Vintage Zayane Saddlebag Kilim | 323 x 142 cm

Once a double-ended saddlebag, this vintage kilim from the Middle Atlas, likely Zayane, has been lovingly repurposed, transforming utility into a radiant work of floor or wall art. Two boldly patterned panels anchor the piece, each bursting with vivid zigzags and lozenges in hot pink, turquoise, coral, red, green, yellow, and white, held in contrast by hints of black.

These decorative ends are separated by horizontal bands in rich earth tones, a composition that pulses with symmetry and pride. The finishing seams still whisper of their original purpose, where the pockets were once sewn, now lies open space, revealing the story of adaptation and preservation.

Possibly woven as a gift, this kilim radiates joy and intention, its colors unafraid and celebratory. It bridges the functional needs of nomadic life with the deeply rooted expression of Berber artistry, a textile made to travel, to serve, and ultimately, to be admired.
