Vintage High Atlas Hanbel / 245 x 140 cm
This vintage hanbel from the High Atlas carries the quiet poetry of domestic life, humble in origin, yet rich in spirit. Woven in alternating bands of natural ivory and dark brown wool, its composition reflects balance, but never rigidity. The weaving is freehand, imperfectly perfect, a testament to human touch rather than mechanical precision.
Scattered across the surface, vibrant accents in red, blue, purple, orange, and green bring moments of joy and symbolism. The motifs, zigzags, waves, dots, rings and spontaneous markings, move like thoughts across a daydream, capturing fragments of memory, belief and intention. Some sections may include cotton or recycled fabric threads, a subtle nod to resourcefulness and continuity.
Finished with long, twisted fringes, this piece tells the story of a weaver’s daily rhythm, intimate and unhurried. A quiet work of utility, now transformed into beauty for the floor or wall.
