Vintage Eastern High Atlas Flatweave / 320 x 172 cm
From the eastern reaches of the High Atlas comes this richly woven kilim, a textile where beauty and meaning go hand in hand. Its vibrant palette of indigo, ruby red, saffron orange, emerald green, turquoise, and ivory sings with energy, while charcoal accents add clarity and contrast, like ink outlining a story on parchment.
This finely woven piece, using both kilim and brocading techniques, is structured in horizontal sections, each one a verse of traditional symbolism. X-shaped medallions, diamond lozenges and rhythmic zigzag motifs repeat with subtle variations, suggesting intention, intuition and the personal touch of its weaver. Wide outer borders with chains of diamonds contain the whole composition, framing the story like a protective charm.
Likely made as a functional textile, perhaps even a dowry offering, it carries the weight of tradition and the joy of celebration. Finished with delicate braided tassels, this kilim is not only a beautiful floor piece but a preserved memory in wool and color.
