Vintage High Atlas Hanbel Blanket / 377 x 142 cm

A softly spoken piece of tradition, this vintage High Atlas hanbel reflects the quiet strength and subtle poetry of mountain life. Woven in natural, undyed ivory and deep brown wool, the rhythmic striping creates a grounded, graphic presence, minimalist at first glance, but full of hidden tales.

Scattered across the surface, small bursts of color and texture gently interrupt the earthy rhythm of the stripes. At first glance, the composition seems restrained, but then the eye catches the joyful tufting, wool knots in vivid orange, cobalt blue, green, and pink, unexpected and celebratory, like wildflowers blooming across a quiet field.

Between the lines, tiny hand-stitched symbols appear, some so subtle they might go unnoticed. They feel like whispered memories, personal prayers, or simply the weaver’s way of leaving her mark, private expressions folded into the fabric.

Elsewhere, intricate woven bands emerge with quiet elegance, and openwork patterns invite a closer look, revealing layers of skill and intention. Finally, the story is brought to a close with tightly braided fringes

This blanket is more than warmth. It’s a narrative in wool, a functional heirloom that bridges mountain silence and the colorful voice of its weaver. A true embodiment of Amazigh artistry, both grounded and free.
